Festival Meeting at Wash

I’ve been doing a spot of behind-the-scenes work at Blaze Central recently, but having finished university *yay* there’s time for me to get a bit more involved with the goings on in the run up to summer. On Wednesday I attended a meeting at Wash where the Young Producers for the Blaze Festival were making decisions about dressing up Miller Park for the festival. I brought a friend from UCLan called Kelsey who’s a bit of a print guru and she offered her insights.

The aims of the session were to get plenty of ideas on the wall and start working out how the site is going to look. We used books and the Internet to find some inspiration and there was plenty to choose from! The most common themes were bright colours and fabric structures, like kites and tents and flags. We discussed lighting some pathways and creating a trail for people to follow through the park towards each element of the festival. The plan is also to construct some kind of tensile fabric structure supported by the gazebo that already sits in Miller Park to provide some shelter and a real focal point for Blaze’s presence.

There will also be a piece of participatory artwork for the public to interact with, which is in the planning stages at the moment. I’ve been coming up with a few ideas since Wednesday - my favourite so far is some kind of installation that people can add drawings and postcards to before they are all put away in a time capsule at the end of the festival! I’m really excited to see the next few months unfold and can’t wait to see what comes out of the next few meetings…
